Great call…The Shaggs are one of those mysterious phenomena, like Wiseau. Despite being wincingly awful, technically, there's something happening at another level that transcends the merely bad.

Freeman is one of those actors who just seems to raise the tone of anything he's in. Ian McKellen's another. Anything he's in is the better for it.Especially since the LOTR franchise. A couple of years ago, my spry, active 80 year-old mother had a hip replacement. She was pretty gloomy in the aftermath; you know: couldn't walk her dog, play with her cats, tend her garden, cook for my dad.
