The trailer for Dance Flick has at least one genuinely funny joke in it.

X3
X3 was way worse than "mediocre and forgettable," guys. It was a completely risible, ridiculous, and inept reversion to the "Batman and Robin" nadir of superhero crap. It had some small degree of campy, awesomely-bad value, which Wolverine apparently doesn't, but come on.

for some reason
my biggest LOL of the night was when Jack's mom said of her new beau "he makes his own soda." Just a little throwaway line like that can be so magically funny on this show.

Lymelife
Are y'all gonna review Lymelife? Shit's coming out this weekend in Chicago, I think it's been out elsewhere for a while.

Oh shit, I stand corrected — had no idea Gentlemen Prefer Blondes was based on a stage musical.

B?
You're crazy, Handlen. This was by far the best episode of the season so far. If this is a B, then the previous episodes were all C+

The comparisons are hardly irrelevant in the case of Breaking Bad, dude. One was a show about a successful drug dealing operation; one is a show about two out-of-their-element guys trying to create a successful drug dealing operation. It's not like I'm comparing The Wire to, like, How I Met Your Mother or something.

Bogdanovich does a good commentary on Ford's The Searchers. Admittedly I didn't listen to all of it, but it's good stuff.

None of my favorite musicals were based on stage productions. Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Singin' in the Rain, some of the Fred & Ginger movies, and, heh, The 5000 Fingers of Dr T. All great musicals and all unique to cinema, with no theatrical predecessors.

You know, I actually have a soft spot for the '55 Guys and Dolls film, punishingly overlong as it is. It's hard to resist the combo of Brando and Sinatra.

In the mail
A copy shall be arriving from Netflix tomorrow. I've been geeked about this since Dave Kehr jizzed all over it in his NYT column.

I just meant they were *equivalents*, not equals.

Opposite Day: I didn't even think of the whole Barry White trope, I guess because it's been a long time time since that trope has showed up regularly in the culture. You're right, though, there are two different levels of unintentional racism going on there.

B- sounds about right
Total placeholder episode, but HIMYM does placeholder episodes pretty well. Especially given that pregnancy has apparently made Cobie Smulders funnier! Seriously, when did she become such a sharp comic actress. In season one she was just there to look pretty and be the girl of Ted's dreams,

Bringin' it back to The Wire
Saul Goodman = Maurice Levy. An even sleazier, more amoral, low-rent Maurice Levy.

Sundance
Noel, didn't you give this film a slightly higher grade/review when you saw it at Sundance? Did it get worse on a second viewing, or am I just crazy?

Actually it looks pretty good.

T. Howard
Terrence Howard is one of the best actors going, but his roles have been mostly ehhh. The big exception of course is Hustle & Flow. His performance in that is one of the best of the decade. So it's good to hear he's in something good again.

Not trying to be a dick
This is good news for the site and all, but I can't stand Mike D'Angelo's writing. Please tell me he won't be using that asinine, ludicrous 100-point rating scale here. That whole approach just baffles me. And his irritating habit of walking out on movies because they don't immediately speak

Sorry
for the double post.
