@avclub-9349e20458f64c9bfb83b5221e145937:disqus Are tributes to b-movies ever successful at the box office (Tarantino films excepted)? Always seems like a disaster waiting to happen.

I listened to an interview with John August where he spoke about collaborating with Burton and described meetings with him as being extremely short (like half an hour, maybe less) and he sort of leaves the writer to do their own thing, giving very little feedback throughout the process. Part of this could be his

I occasionally do that scene when I get drunk. I try not to break things, but shit happens.

I remember seeing his name on the cover, knowing who he was, seeing the movie and still being like, "who did Michael Keaton play?"

Maybe it's unfair, but I don't give Burton a lot of credit for Big Fish. That was really John August's baby and he'd worked with Spielberg for much of the pre-production. Burton came in kind of at the last minute when the script was pretty much done. He did a fine job, but it feels more Spielberg than Burton to me.

I always assumed it was Mars Attacks. Ed Wood was a financial failure but he kinda had to expect that, right? It was at least critically acclaimed. Mars Attacks was a huge production, a passion project for Burton (a tribute to Ed Wood, actually) and was a critical and financial bomb.

Topanga gave him shit for having to even think about it. Fuck that noise. Go for Linda, Cory. I think if he'd stayed with Linda he would not have turned into an old Jewish lady in the later seasons.

It holds up probably the best of any teen shows from that time period. I caught it on MTV2 over Christmas and am not ashamed to say I enjoyed a few laughs.

"Daddy, what's a 'dirty sanchez'? Uncle Screech wants to give me one!"

Well, that's the difference between "holding out" and "fully expecting."

Rider Strong announced that he has not been asked to join the cast. Without him or Daniels, what kind of bullshit sequel TV show is this? This is some 'AfterMASH" level shit right here. Still holding out for Adam Scott and Rilo Kiley's Blake Sennett to reprise their respective roles.

Flashfire is one of the weaker ones. The follow up, Firebreak, is much better. There's a few clunkers in the later ones. If you're starting on the series, I'd read the first chunk before moving onto the '90s revival ones.

Not sure if I like this as a single but it's fine as an album track. Then again I like pretty much every album they've made (First Impressions being probably their worst, though containing a few of their best tracks). They were never as original or inventive as people seemed to want them to be, but they make up for it

The Limey is like a great combination of Point Blank and Get Carter. Soderbergh would make a great Parker movie.

I guess it was confusing because DP10 really has done product placement on shows like The League and Apt. 23, but this pretty clearly seemed to be mocking if not product placement then that particular ad campaign.

Yep. Pretty disappointed in this review. I understand sometimes it gets old writing about every episode of a show and you've gotta have content, but sheesh.

That cracked me up. Just the thought of an old man being called a "tool" hits my funny bone.

Yeah, I'm surprised more people didn't pick up on that. "You can't drink it Jillian—it's for men ONLY!"
