Mid-30s here, and also lived in NYC after college, and I agree with you—the show rings very true, if really cringey at times. IRL at least a couple of them would have boring office day jobs, but that doesn't really make for interesting TV so it's fine.

Re: Marnie and Charlie, I kind of wish now that they hadn't had him become so successful; it would have been nice to have her go through the thing with Booth and from that, be able to appreciate Charlie more for who he is. But maybe the idea is for Charlie to dump Marnie next season once he realizes he's outgrown her.

I really wish it were Zizes—man do I miss her—but I don't think she'd bother with a secret identity.

This was one of the more phoned-in Glee eps I've ever seen, but loved the line about how nobody @ McKinley thinks about college until two weeks before graduation.

Pam should be glad that job had the office manager title with receptionist responsibilities. Usually what small companies do is the opposite—make that kind of job include everything from security to website maintenance to bookkeeping, then title it "receptionist" so they can still pay $8/hr.

So many great responses in this thread, I would just heartily echo the advice to go hear live classical music if you can, because it'll help you decide where to start.

I wonder which cast members will stay around for AfterHIMYM.

I'm with you, I'm really surprised that people loved JL and hated the sketches, I felt like the concepts and writing were pretty solid and JL just isn't great at comedy. Or at least not yet, she's still young.

Yeah, seriously, where were they going to go with that bizarro finale? Maybe they knew it was getting cancelled too. Although it would have been fun to have old Jane marry new Jane.

I didn't love the movie "This is 40," but the line where Leslie Mann says she doesn't want to be old and doesn't want to shop at Chico's killed me.

Kickapoo—great choice! I don't know how they found a kid who looks so much like a mini-Jack Black, but he's great.

OMG, A Weekend in the Country. What a fucking unbelievably great ensemble. A Little Night Music is full of amazing stuff—Now/Soon/Later…Liaisons…I feel like it's totally underrated.

I feel like I'm stalking you through this thread, but have to say: "Insensitive" is a great choice. "You are divine! Get out."

I didn't know TCM and Fathom Events did screenings, this is very cool info!

It always amazes me that the male lead is such a terrible singer—"Turn Back the Hands of Time" has to be one of the most excruciating songs in any musical.

I'm trying to just mention ones that haven't been used already:

Tick Tick Boom has its moments (I can't believe some singer hasn't done a cover of "Come to Your Senses"), but I feel like the last third really drags. But "Sugar" and "Green Green Dress" are both a lot of fun.

The bench scene from Carousel—the show is problematic, but that scene is perfection.

Are you familiar w/ Iolanthe? The Nightmare Aria from that is my favorite G&S patter song.

"You taught me how to be a man. How to wrastle a steer to the ground and apply a fiery brand to his hind-quarters. And yes, how to love a woman."
