It was totally designed to screw with Dawn. Both the message and Jeff emphasized how it was her and her husband's anniversary. So they were doing everything they could to point a finger at her and say, "choose her! choose her!" They were angling to make her breakdown and cry.

Hathaway was hands down the best part about this movie. The lampshading of how stupid it was for her to be running around in heels made my day.
