Great to hear from another fan of Skinny Malinky's adventures.  I found the book on the shelf in my house as a young kid - maybe 8 or 9 - and have loved it ever since, revisiting often.  At one point I tracked down (does using eBay count as "tracking down?") a copy of the sequel, Skinny Malinky Leads the War for

Spun is a black comedy?
I remember walking out of the theater and never wanting to do drugs again… of course, I went home and got drunk and stoned, but still, I'd put it more on the terrifying morality tale side than black comedy. First step in Mickey Rourke's comeback, too!

Pure, unmelted Crystal Dream
You rub it in your eyes and it shows you pretty pictures!

Word to your mother, from Super Mario Brothers

Media Monkey supposedly works too, but from my experience, nothing integrates an iPod as effectively as iTunes, which is the worst software I've ever had the displeasure of using. As far as combing your hard drive to identify which tracks you acquired illegally, that wouldn't work at all - it is totally legal to rip

Last time I saw the Misfits, it was some "Project 5150" tour or something with Marky Ramone, Dez Cadena, and Jerry Only - no Michael Graves. The set was 49% Ramones and 49% Misfits, with "Rise Above" being the only contribution from Dez/Black Flag… and every song was played at twice the speed on the records, so they

Amen to "We've Got a LIVE One Here!" One of the best things about country music is all the old LPs are worthless and therefore nearly always available for under $5 at record shops. Check the dollar bins, too, that's where they hide the really good stuff like this.

I love Roky - saw him with the Explosives at Musicfest NW in 2007 and later backed by the Black Angels, which were both fantastic shows, and it was great to see the positive change in his demeanor between shows (more confidence, looking at the audience more, etc.) And this album is pretty good… But for me, Roky's

Archive.org has tons of great live Zevon recordings available for download or streaming (http://bit.ly/EXyOg). I especially dig the 12/08/90 show, it's got Gurf Morlix on it… Tons of great stuff on there, though.

Six-String Samurai comes to mind as a power of rock movie, but it's not so much a transforming force in there as it is straight-up badassitude.

Why no love for "How Much Wood Would a Woodchuck Chuck?" Am I the only one who loves 45 minutes of livestock auctioneers doing the chant? Talk about trance-inducing…

Another killer Ellroy interview:

Don't know where you heard about Nickelback being the biggest selling band - every list I can find says it's Eminem…

"rag to ditches" has a real nice ring to it, though… also, it's "rags to riches" if you're looking for the cliche… of course, that's probably just being a dick about it

Eating Raoul is great, if you haven't seen it.

A dark day indeed…
I am deeply depressed to learn of the passing of Rhino Records - I am surprised I hadn't heard the news earlier. From my first exposure as a child via a Dr. Demento double disc set, Rhino paved a solid path through the record shelves that helped guide my rock 'n roll education for years to come.

Met Lemmy Kilmister at a bookstore in Portland before a concert shortly after September 11 - I recall the date because Soul Brains was supposed to open but couldn't get a flight, so Mudhoney filled in. Lemmy was very gracious, took a photo with me and three other friends, and signed my friend Angela's right tit. If

um, above post applies to the above thread, duh… sorry folks, I'm a fucking idiot.
