Yeah I hear you, I was adopted out of a physically abusive family and it took my folks 7 years of court appearances and checks etc just because they couldn't have their own kids while my bio dad had 7 kids with different women and drank himself to death.
I really enjoyed The Hater, it was what got me into this site in the first place. I also thought Amelie Gillette was a fake name, like some kind of Bond girl name.

Lila was such a boring stereotype, the raven haired little wanna be, sexy 'Veronica' bad girl to tempt Dexter away from his 'Betty', good as gold, overly sweet blonde girl. Who, by the way, was just as annoying a stereotype.

It was refreshing to see someone so young and unrehearsed speak to the BBC, she just couldn't believe it, she was totally shellshocked.
And then Ian Thorpe, back in the BBC studios, the guy who was also coming up when he was 15, basically just shrugged and said something like, 'Yeah, you see some really amazing…

A 3rd for Cat's Eye - my favourite book in high school. She's not always so pleasant though - I worked in a restaurant below where the excellent, also canadian writer Timothy Findley lived, who was friends with her. Findley's boyfriend/husband was super nice, Atwood..not so much.

I saw him in Toronto last summer and he tells the audience, "This audience is more New York than New York!' and everyone cheered which, til this day, sums up Toronto perfectly in my mind. The ultimate compliment in Toronto is to tell people it feels like somewhere else.
