Exactly. The thing that makes this so bad, without getting into where it's personally offensive, is the fact that it's not funny. It's exactly what Dunham's detractors criticise her (and "Girls") for being - without comic or dramatic effect. Just a lot of random shock value shit thrown out there.

I can't help it, I'm all about Paul and Cranston. And what makes them the greatest DUO is that Breaking Bad's best episodes (as I would count them) all focus heavily on Walt and Jesse. Galdolfini and Falco are great, but they're not together THAT much in what I''ve seen (halfway through Season 4). It's actually quite

My problem with the Sopranos is that, yes, I know it was the first. Without it, we wouldn't have greats like Mad Men and Breaking Bad. I appreciate that. But I simply prefer Mad Men and Breaking Bad.

Forgive me if this is a dumb question - but how exactly does this work? Assuming it's true, do they HAVE to keep Brody around for seven seasons? Or is it just a way of getting Lewis bound to the show so he can't turn around when his career really starts to bloom (which I presume it has) and refuse to come back or ask

without spoilers: also not helped by the fact that Smith had one scene in tonight's episode that pretty much screamed "SUBMISSION!" but, ugh, downton. as a brit, i do not understand why americans love it so much. because it's cliched, soapy and badly-written "WE ARE BRTIISH" escapism?

@TashaRobinson:disqus Isn't that Deenie by Judy Blume?

@avclub-77b18ff392798e8e52b7f83004902be8:disqus I wouldn't say "Patty always wins" is the only problem with the formula, though it's definitely one of them. I haven't seen Season 4 or 5 (they didn't air them on the BBC and they won't apparently) but an even larger problem, connected to that to me, is the writers'

I'm not going to listen. The 9/11 calls convinced me that there are some things people really don't need to/should ever hear.

That's just fucking awful. Seriously, it's like the 9/11 calls. I listened to one of the poor people in the Towers and I felt absolutely horrible. A person's moment of raw desperation should be private.

My sister and I (we're both English and watch a ton of American TV) were like, "What the hell is THAT?"

I'm English, and even though I don't watch AI, I came running down the stairs when I heard Seacrest say 'Liverpool Football Club' like…IS IT THE SAME ONE?

Yeah, that's true. I LOVE Bijou Phillips and her tiny appearances as Lucy ("get rid of him" and Lucy's tapes to 'Princess Beyonce' were two of the best S1 moments for me), but I still feel uncomfortable with the soapy and hokey nature of it. To me the best moments overall come when they mix realism and broad

Yeah, I WISH I could un-know who Nancy Grace is. And really, once you read into her conduct during the Melinda Duckett, the Duke "gang-rape" and Casey Anthony cases (and her total lack of remorse, respect or dignity concerning them), this episode feels like the lowest of the low, to be frank.
