I thought Altered Carbon was a terrible book, the hero is an unlikeable psychopath and it just seems like the whole thing was written to be made into a movie.

I don't know if China Mieville counts as science fiction, but Perdido Street Station and The Scar are two fantastic novels.

The Phantom of Paradise
A babysitter watched this movie in a hotel with me and my younger brother and sister when I was about 10 years old in 1980 or '81. It was the single most terrifying thing I had ever seen and it affected my life for years afterwards.

The episode of The Hogan Family where Jason Bateman fails to have sex is the only episode of that show that I actually remember watching. I was probably 16 or so and I remember pulling for him in my mind - Go! Do It! and I was really disappointed when he failed.
