I guess it comes from the fact that we WANT out leaders to be idealists, in practice it doesn't work out so well.

Yeah, the whole Lyta thing is strange. Especially since she becomes so pivotal later in the season. Plus, why would you risk pissing off someone who is essentially a Vorlon WMD? Who just happens to be a ginger? Not a wise decision. Do no meddle in the affairs of gingers, for they are subtle and quick to anger.

Thirdspace is worth it for Vir and Ivanova's tentacle-dreamscape-sexytime.

I don't know if this was a conscious decision on JMS's part but both Epiphanies and The Illusion of Truth highlight what a poor political leader Sheridan is. I don't mean he's not an inspirational, near messiah like figure. It's the nitty gritty, politics that gets him. I guess that just comes from his military

Does a game not having an easily recognizable tutorial count? I have heard whispers that both Crusader Kings II and Europa Universalis IV have some sort of tutorial, but I have nary a clue where they are located. The games literally throw you into the deep end, although there are "hints" even these are less then

Is anyone up for a game of basketball?

I've heard the White Star described as a plucked chicken of a spaceship…still I thought it was a cool fucking design…and it still was maneuverable enough to highlight B5's adherence to realistic physics like the Star Furies.

Motor Butt?

@avclub-d72f705337e5adcf7e33ec0381c5f5b2:disqus I wish we could have had a more in-depth exploration of IPX.

I get the sense that JMS was advocating liberal interventionism, something like Kosovo/Siberia in the 90's.  There the west could be the hero and 'save' a minority who was actively being shot/persecuted.  I think he rethought it when neocons used interventionism to their own political/economic ends to pick a fight in

The question is are the Shadows and Vorlons just stand ins for a Judeo-Christian God and Satan?  Shadows/Satan as personified by Morden:  smooth, charismatic, gives you what your pleasure leads you to.  Vorlons/God, demanding, paternalistic, concerned with order and obedience, kind of judgmental pricks.

Re:  "JMS has some kind of weird cynical fascist streak"  it's implied and I don't know if this is canon or not but the Earth Alliance of the west and China essentially forced the rest of the world to go along with a westernized liberal federal democracy via military conquest.  See references in series to war of the

The music from Season 5 opening credits is "Voices of Authority" by Christopher Franke.  That and "Messages from Earth" are awesome.  Oh and add in the theme from "Into the Fire" the scraped Sierra flight sim, which is tits.

I always add in my head "The Babylon Project, was our last, best hope for peace.  That shit failed…

Every time I try to watch along with these reviews I end up on a binge and finish whole seasons in a week.  Then, I get to season 5 and it all falls apart.

I think it's supposed to be a commentary on the decadent nature of their culture, that in the pursuit of regaining the "glory days" of the empire they have lost their souls.  Ironic coming from JMS, who I believe is a self avowed atheist.  That and the Vorlons didn't diddle them.
