He will be Cruciforcetorious!

The Sisters of Mercy finale was as enjoyable for me as the Nine Inch Nails in the finale of Cabin in the Woods. Thanks for finally crossing the last nostalgia frontier.
If the Doctor really gets into the Sisters, that's something I could get behind.

The OG thread missed all the snowed-in what-to-stream chatter (awww). My Facebook feed covered most of these - good job, feedfolks. I added Misery to my Fifteen Below Zero And There's Ice Growing Inside The House Film Fest, and MST3K's Jack Frost because pigsled. And the streamable Twilight Zone episode The Midnight

Gotcha. I miss so much pop culture these days, what with the taxes and oil changes and whatnot.

The newsroom has an unofficial Saturday Night Live ban, since it creates varying levels of discomfort among co-workers according to age and religious affiliation. So, I don't get to watch much lo these last six or seven years.

So, this " I Wish It Was Christmas Today" … is this canon? I've never seen this.

Coincidentally, this movie is where I first saw an actual advent calendar. It seems that shit was only for suburby people.

Sort of like a Cracker Hannukah countdown? I also just realized that it was an advent calendar being used in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. They were definitely WASPy.

I thought it might be some Catholic thing but it seems to be mostly prevalent in John Hughes-type households. It seems kind of fun but does it have some religiony connotation lurking around?

Selma has blue hair, so there's that.

I couldn't have told you that the hero's name was Jake. All I remember from Avatar was making mental notes to get the form to fill out for a refund due to the 3D IMAX making us all sick. Plus the movie was stupid.

I had no idea what an advent calendar was until I read about it on X-Entertainment (now Dinosaur Dracula). Apparently this is a middle class suburban thing?

Yes! thanks a ton. my 2005 Dell doesn't load Disqus too well so combing through comments is an experiment in terror.

cool :) though a torrent with the whole set of this year's/past years of Undercover or the complete Holiday Undercover tracks would make my stocking run.

My holiday wish: AV CLUB SHOULD RELEASE UNDERCOVER/HOLIDAY UNDERCOVER TRACKS AS DOWNLOADABLE PLAYLISTS. I would pay $1.99 or whatever.

Detroit is the new Youngstown. (Wait, what?)

It's more that Calvin Johnson is exploiting hipsters these days, but it can be said that people go see him to say they rubbed elbows with someone else who had an effect on Kurt Cobain's fashion choices rather than to listen to his new music.

The comments mention Jonathan Richman … he just played here in Youngstown, and his multi-lingual stripped-down show was a real treat. He's picky about things but warms to a receptive audience. We've been lucky to host Wesley Willis, Calvin Johnson and Blowfly himself, all musicians who can be lumped into the whole

Blowfly is alive to answer the question.
