One of the least funny comedies I've seen in a theater, which is too bad cause I love The Dean. Decent enough drama, but anytime it goes for laughs it fell pretty flat. Just watch Adventureland instead.

So who is the mystery woman? Kathy Kane?
Interesting. I think Man of Steel might be the only fun blockbuster I've seen this summer, give or take Iron Man 3 in parts (where he's not wearing the Iron Man suit).
But how can you fail when you haven't even really started?
I hope its better than Starbuck…because yeah, that movie is terrible.
I guess we've just met the one person that actually wanted Angela to come back, whereas most of us were like, "…her?"
I think JL 3000 is going to be the place to get your Giffen fix. I also loved Batman/Superman and thought it was tops last week, so what do I know?
It hasn't grabbed me yet, Dragotta's art is lovely, but it seems to be all concept and very little characterization so far, at least nothing that grabs me. I do like the mythos being built, so I'm sure it'll pick up.
I'm probably the only one…but I prefer Superman TAS to Batman TAS, it's probably the semi-serialization…but the storytelling just seems more crisp. I have a hard time going back and watching the early Batman stuff without cringing a good deal.
@levi_williams:disqus But you completely ignore the quality that DC has been putting out the past two years, and as listed in @avclub-1f22330245d3876b50135dd3d3210610:disqus's post, to rail on the tired "Bob Harras sucks" talking point.
And you paid no attention to what @avclub-1f22330245d3876b50135dd3d3210610:disqus actually said, well done.
Yep, I quite liked that as well, it just didn't quite stick with me as well as some previous issues of that run have. Still, it's a tremendous achievement of a storyline.
Eh…I think Gillen just isn't for me as it seems everyone else adores him. Regardless, I'll probably be dropping it after this issue most likely.
This and Batman/Superman take the top spots for me this week. Only Fatale, Mind MGMT, and Lazarus came anywhere near close (I still have to read this week's Prophet). Though, I must admit, I got a nice guilty pleasure vibe out of Geoff Johns and Gary Frank's Shazam conclusion in Justice League. King Shazam!
@avclub-da518aecddbf5c94588f53562012c452:disqus Yup, JLU is great…then again, wouldn't that mean a Justice League movie could be equally good by that measure?
But Superman the Animated Series is really only good in small bits, the great majority of it is a bore.
The stuff in Wales is the only worthwhile part, everything else is idiotic and incomprehensible.
I joined a Murakami book club that meets next month, our first read is "Hard-Boiled Wonderland and The End of the World", as I've been told it falls right in line with the things I like. I'm rather excited to get into it! What should our next book be?
How great would it be if the Marvel movies actually had the stylistic diversity of Marvel comics? I'd love a Conan-like Thor movie like Jason Aaron is writing, or a high science Avengers like Hickman's?, or urban vigilante Hawkeye like Fraction's?…then again, I only like Iron Man in the movies, so Gillen can stay far…
It's not going to matter, this whole thing is tanking once general audiences realize…"what the the fuck?…a talking raccoon?"
