I didn't ever think of the Fountain as a fun scifi movie- it's really hardly a scifi movie at all. Really, it's more a chamber piece meditating on the acceptance of the loss of a loved one. The book "the Fountain" within the film represents the characters' attempts to frame and process that pain

As someone who eventually saw both, I respectfully disagree

After missing it in theaters, I later caught it on DVD and loved it on first viewing, but I must admit that I also had prior knowledge on "what was happening" in the film, as I had read a lot about the troubled production ahead of its release.

The worst part was that they agreed to the Fountain beforehand (I was talking it up due to my love of Aronofsky's prior two films), then blindsided me with "we don't really want to see that- but Déjà Vu on the other hand!" once we got to the box office.

My friends made me see this movie instead of the Fountain, and I have never forgiven them.
I thought this movie was garbage, mainly due to its laughable premise

And what about new Dr. Dog "B-Room"?

I totally read it that way, too

"Can any man’s soul retain its innocence, after having seen all this, after having heard all about this?"
O'Neal's Leno reference… Have you seen this? Have you heard about this?
