Cartman: "Life goes by pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, and do whatever you want all the time, you could miss it."

You mean because it's a debate over the exact issues depicted in the film? Yeah, good point. I'd be a lot more interested in The Cove if it were a totally different movie too.

All hail that squid monster thing
Am I the only person who gets P.G. Wodehouse and H.P. Lovecraft confused?

Yeah, but the problem is that reverence gets old much faster than irreverence. If everyone gets all reverent here, it only takes a couple of minutes for a trivial argument to break out, escalate irrationally, and eventually require some calming irreverence.

Tull!

Farah Fawcett was married to Lee Majors…
Lee Majors played Steve Austin…
"Stone Cold" Steve Austin wrestled against The Rock…
The Rock was in the Scorpion King with Michael Clarke Duncan…
Michael Clarke Duncan's first film role was in Friday…
Friday also starred John Witherspoon…
I've always confused John Witherspoon with

Not true. He was dead, but sources say his reanimated corpse has been stalking a teenage girl along with a mob of other reanimated corpses, some of whom are breakdancing.

JW not the only redeeming feature of Episode I
Darth Maul was pretty cool too.

Or all the Greek papers with cartoons saying "Heeeeeeere's Charon, the Boatman of the Dead!"

But he's already tipped his hat to the Doors. Al did a verse from "LA Woman" way back in "Polkas on 45".

Overlooked
Apollo 13?
Parenthood?
The Waterboy?
Leprechaun 2?

Children and drugs - a natural fit
Children's entertainment seems to come in two varieties: conventionally structured fare intended to train children to be rational adults, and things that meet children (or very young children at least) where they already are psychologically. The latter involves dream logic,

"I'm still here, El Guapo!"

Ace Ventura and Wayne's World
When it's uncomfortably hot somewhere, my friends quote Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls: "Kinda hot in these rhinos."

@ Abby Normal: Yeah, our marching band played that too. It was the shit. It was our parade tune during my freshman year. Also you and I are nerds.

I'm a sucker for suffering, and when long-suffering Emma Thompson finally breaks down at the end of Sense and Sensibility, I'm gone.

the mouse family in Robin Hood
Did anyone mention the old animated Robin Hood yet? When they're all in the jail cell, and that poor chained-up mouse (oh shit) is trying to reach that morsel of food (oh shit) and the dog… the dog nudges it over to him (shit, man… shit) and instead of eating it, he carries it over to

Speaking of Disney, how about Fantasia 2000? I'm not being ironic. At the end of the Pomp and Circumstance bit, when Donald and Daisy re-unite, I teared up. At least I did in the theater. When I re-watched the clip on Youtube, all I could think about is how did they have photographs to carry around in Old Testament

Raising Arizona may be a comedy, but that dream sequence is beautiful and poignant.
