Must confess, Prole, I find Dalek a little tough to tolerate because I can't really wrap my brain around how Rose is so standing up for the Dalek… the same Dalek that just killed a couple of hundred people in front of her not five minutes earlier!!
Other niggles.. the Doctor really isn't very useful, is he? His only

I also used to wonder… does that make her, like, the only person in the world who didn't remember that the Earth was dragged across the universe, etc? Shouldn't she be in some sort of therapy for deeply suppressed memory?
Of course, Moffatt fixed that by having EVERYONE forget about that event.. thanks to the Cracks

Yes, that was the life that he encouraged Martha to leave UNIT for… sigh.

Well, maybe the Doctor didn't want to march a bunch of his REAL friends into possible certain death.. But everything else, yeah. Needless to say, the question remains: Who the hell was Madam Eyepatch????
I also have to say, the Doctor capturing the base without costing lives (assuming the clerics shooting at each

Well, not a ladies man but he could talk to them.. as opposed to later, when he just had his head hung in an inability to meet Penny, or any woman's, eye. He just seemed generally NORMAL.. Unless my memory cheats.

I think I have to agree with the opinion that showrunner protestations to the contrary, BBT is often laughing at nerds rather than with them.
I also have to say that I did not like where the show went with Stuart. If memory serves me correctly, he started out as a pretty normal person who could interact with women.

I always find it annoying when flashbacks seem to be happening in real-time. It's funny when it gets played for laughs in Scrubs, but over here if Katn.. e, Charlie is gonna zone out if she sees something that reminds her of the Day Of The Blackout and people can sneak up on her, that's just not good survival skillz.

Didn't she already kill one of the militia troops in the pilot, arrowing him in the back? Her vics here were the captain (who was already established as a meanie, by virtue of his gunning down the prisoner) and the militiaman trying to kill her…

I think the 'fascist' reference was only regarding UNIT in NuWho (unless we're taking Inferno, amirite, ha ha!). Five rounds rapid was, however, pretty much always the right solution in the old days, though as pointed out, rarely effective. Case in point, the Axons, where the Doctor is offended by the military

Yeah, though I never really thought they were quite as fascistic as the show might have wanted me to think… The Doctor was just insufferably and, frankly, needlessly rude.

The novelization was written by Marc Platt so is really very good.. And surely Downtime is viewable on Youtube?
