i totally disagree about its readability, but i appreciate the response- with such a damning review, i really needed to know.

good point, petronella- to the good guys, she's either equal to or better than us regular humans, but to the bad guys (and i use juvenile terms like good guys and bad guys intentionally) she's nothing more than an opportunity/science project. there are mentions of protests from conservative christian types, etc, but

actually, i don't think she's hot, either, but i saw an opportunity to make a joke, so i went for it.

i'd still go drilling for them, though, knowumsayin?

you have no idea, cap'n- i wanted to chuck it way before the end. as for tv, i'm certainly not a holier-than-thou type, i simply don't have cable and only bought an antenna to watch a world cup game.

"double dip in your favorite sauce"?
sriracha? does she have the clap or something?

oh, i know you weren't- i just wanted to demonstrate my complete lack of prior kringitude. i am chastened, certainly, and will continue my streak of not watching heroes (or prison break. or any tv show, really.)

the cover of the ARC just has "did LSD kill JFK?" on it, so i read the description about mk-ultra-style experiments giving people psychic powers and, being a big pkd fan, decided to give it a shot. i didn't realize who tim kring was until i was halfway through, but that didn't mean anything because i've never seen an

"Lucy's friends are impossibly virtuous, and her enemies are stone-cold evil figures, barely disguised versions of all of the worst things the left feared about the George W. Bush administration, as though Gonzales had half a novel, then combined it with a diary he wrote on Daily Kos in 2005."

this book is terrible
and the review is spot-on. i mean, the good people are so virtuous as to be completely fucking ridiculous, the bad people are total caricatures, the writing is middle school melodramatic (i about threw my arc away when she's in the lab and sees "the face of pure evil." jesus fucking christ), and

an actual comment about the book
the whole pkd-like idea of lsd giving certain people these crazy abilities was pretty cool, but hardly explored in the book. instead it's a pretty standard spy/thriller/conspiracy story with elements of of something interesting sprinkled around. the writing isn't very good and there

he was.

i'm with montypark- i don't think american tastemakers would give a shit about robyn if she was from the states.

yes- so long as thrift stores sell vinyl, mitch will never truly die. also, if you're unable to find any mitch miller in the thrift store, get out- something is wrong.

today's secret word is "awesome"

sorry, *aren't* best friends

favorite position?
reverse cowboy curtis.

they are like best friends, but bowie is a big fan of his work and has invited him to hang out a few times and had him do readings for select groups of bowie's friends. he's boys with murakami, too.

yeah, now that you say that, i *do* seem to remember something like that. … you sure it was *three* boobs, though?

shit, they even made a sequel or two. i'm keeping my fingers crossed for the variable man.
