Indeed. And shall we mention his domineering mother?

Yes, but do you think Bates would own more than one overcoat at a time? It seems likely that he would've worn his overcoat again since the murder. Maybe it became his favorite article of clothing and he kept the ticket in his pocket as a memento. Or maybe it just hung in his closet during a change of seasons, e.g.,

"I love it when he has scenes with Violet and Isobel. I love that he's bonding with the matriarchs." Yes! These are some of my favorite scenes!

I love Branson's character, and he's been at loose ends long enough. I hope next season they boot the outspoken, abrasive schoolteacher and find him a lovely, forward-thinking sweetheart—outside the family and perhaps outside the village, while he's on family business. But I hope he manages to stay close to the family

Hutchison was arguably slimier and creepier than Tooms in The Salton Sea. Plays a likeable character in Wrestling Ernest Hemingway. EDIT Nope, it wasn't in WEH, it was in I Am Sam he played a likeable character. Remarkable career, this guy.

Did Doggett ever get his other shoe back?
Things to use that odd shoe for:
As a pull toy.
To unload a pistol.
To make noise when you're in jail.
To attract a nickname like "Senor Un Zapato."
Other.

"John Doe- Robert Patrick's favorite episode"
So happy to learn this. One Shoe is one of my favorite Patrick performances, to be sure. He's a real solid actor. I have to say, though, that I've admired him in small roles, such as the dad in All The Pretty Horses. He also does an ignorant backwoods type to a T.

Lol.

Thank you.
I adore that gesture he makes after he gives up the silver skull, when he says, "Desaparecido."

Indeed.

Well, when I saw Day One, I kind of thought we might be going to have a Monday kind of episode, which it was not.

When Soderbergh did the 2-color filter coding in Traffic, the Mexico side was done in warm, sepia tones; whereas, Sangradura was presented in a distorted overexposure that was kind of wiggy to look at. That camerawork added so much to the surreal and disorienting nature of Doggett's experience. And Patrick was a great

Didn't like Daemonicus that much, but LOVED the sanitarium.

Me, too. Despite the clumsy, expository lines, Patrick did a very convincing job of coming apart. He broke my heart. Gish was good, too.

I can only think that MacLaren must be an actor's director. I love the performances she elicited from the guest cast—and especially from Robert Patrick—for this episode. It must've been fun for Patrick to do something entirely different. Frank Roman was pretty fantastic, too, as Domingo. Can anybody find the name of

JOHN DOE, contd…
The subplot that makes John Doe more than a standalone is a more in-depth treatment of Doggett’s loss of his son, Luke, who appears vividly in Doggett’s dreams, only to be taken away again when his memory is restored. The painful experience gives Doggett a measure of resolution.

I liked the episode very much and agree with the grade, but considering what you have to say, @Cornelius Thoroughgood, I wouldn't balk at a B+ for John Doe.

JOHN DOE/”Señor Un Zapato”

This was a great and undersung film about an utterly selfish and amoral man who has never accomplished anything. Hugh Grant's best work, imo.

Norman Reedus is one of the few actors with the chops, intensity, and physical magnetism to hold his own with the amazing Djimon Hounsou, who can steal a scene by sitting perfectly still in the corner. I assume Hounsou will have to sacrifice his sleeves, as well. If so, count me in!
