I don't know if you've noticed, but the entire internet has a hard time with "flawed but still pretty good" art.  We only want to really love or really hate things.  Hence everybody hates "King Kong" (and everybody either loves or hates "Lost," with the internet basically split right down the middle).

I agree.  I actually liked this one better than most previous entries in the series, many of which boiled down to "Hey, remember this novelty hit that is super-catchy and was mega-popular for a month?  I hate it too!"

I'd leave out "much."  They were better, but basically it was alt-rock-by-numbers that got over on attitude and the hot lead singer.

Some songs seem to fit perfectly in that unique space where they're so transparently, undeniably catchy and fun that I find it hard to blame anyone for either hating them or loving them.  Whichever one you choose, I'm cool with it.  This song I sometimes feel both things about it.  "Call Me Maybe," I love.
