I couldn't decide if using the word in America was intentional or not.  It certainly isn't a word that is commonly known in the states, but if it was a high class hotel/apartment building that wouldn't stop it from being used.  It's always hard to tell when British shows use things in relation to America that natives…

The show has always been very inconsistent about when history can be changed/timelines can crossed/paradox sucking raptors/Blinovitch Limitation Effects/fixed points in time.  It usually does much better when it avoids getting itself into situations that need explaining.  Paradoxes are really not its friend.

My mistake, and @LurkyMcLurkerson:disqus !  Perhaps there was a bit too much projection there!  The fact that people don't always relate well to characters they are similar to is a very good point.

@avclub-d019eb089e65903455cc52308f00b997:disqus It makes sense though, people relate to characters who 1) are similar to themselves, 2) they are familiar with in everyday life and, 3) who they aspire to be like.  I'm sure for your average Trek watching 10-15 year old boy Kira did not fall into any of these categories.
