Actually, a good portion of Troi's ridiculousness would be fixed by making her powers more short range. The telepathy by view screen over great distances never really worked unless they were dealing with a larger organism that might have been 'broadcasting' loudly.

It was a decent sci-fi show that was on at an hour I could watch as a kid. And my parents had watched the original so they didn't object. They showed repeats daily on one of the local indie stations, switching off between TNG and TOS, and they even had great advertising!

"I sense you're feeling…horny."
"Then why didn't you feel that I was lying about not having an STD earlier?"
"My telepathy is… inconsistent. But not my skills in the bedroom."

But "Our Man Bashir" still points out some absurdities. It is sort of bizarre that so many resources on such a 'backward' outpost would be dedicated to such an apparently frivolous device. And Quark owned it. So Quark has the most powerful system on the station with the most storage capacity?

"Hasta la vista, early bird special."

Reading this article was worth it for no other reason then the fact that I now know that there is a county in Florida called Manatee.

@Ira Gilligan: I'm reasonably sure that is the first time that Conor Cruise O'Brien has been mentioned at the AV Club. Personally I never thought I would see the day.

Ah, the TNG/DS9 'evil Admiral', almost as fun as TOS's 'Commodore who doesn't know what he's doing".

Holosuite! Much more classy then a Holodeck.

I vote awesome, for the simple fact that his presence made me watch Voyager episodes. Not much managed to accomplish that. And "Ship in a Bottle", which I always liked.

"Alright fellow Barcley clones, who's shift is it in Holodeck 4?"

"led me to say", "led me to say" damn it!

Ah, "The Drumhead". The episode that first lead me to say, "Wait, there are enlisted people on this ship?"

"Of course! It's all so simple!"

When I watched it I thought they were saying his old name was 'Cusack', a very Irish name indeed. The fact that it was supposed to be the Eastern European 'Kozik' makes that whole deal make a lot more sense.
