God I would see that film so hard.

I was also rather shocked to see that. I thought it was a step above Neon Bible and while it was a bit long, its highs rivaled anything from Funeral.

If Deakins doesn't win I'm going to flip my shit, he should have won for True Grit but this would be great too.

The Amber Spyglass is great, it sort of manages to top the insanity of The Golden Compass in some ways, which was very surprising.

I always thought it was a bit funny for Amundsen to be vilified for succeeding and Scott to be canonized for getting second place, followed by abject failure.

None of those are on Netflix instant, but I'll check to see if my city/college library has them, thanks!

Dead Man sounds intriguing, plus the cast list is insane. Robert Mitchum and Johnny Depp in the same movie is a little hard to process, honestly. It's in my queue now though!

Drums Along the Mohawk was great, it's definitely at least a frontier film with a bit of war film thrown in (I guess I didn't think to list it because of the time period/location, but it fits into that broader category. I think The Searchers is on the AFI list I'm following as well, I'll definitely track it down!

The titles were great, and I really loved that opening shot in the pool (even more so after I found out how they did it). The cinematography was excellent all around, as was the score. Gloria Swanson was, well, glorious. She played an aging, crazy silent film queen exactly like I would have thought it should be…

Saw Skyfall on Saturday, I really enjoyed it! I'm not super well versed in the Bond films (I think I've seen Casino Royale, Goldeneye, The World Is Not Enough, and maybe Dr. No?) but I really enjoyed how they brought it from a sort of revisionist, dark story into an essential reboot of the old Bond status quo.
