Cosmic Slop? It was an HBO (or Cinemax or something) produced film in the mid-90's. It skews a bit more sci-fi than horror but it certainly has political undertones.

'Pushing Tin.' Still the only movie I've ever walked out of a theater on. She was right next to me. Also AWFUL choice for a date movie if you (likely) haven't seen it. I don't think we knew what it was about. (but a better choice than my first date movie - Dumb & Dumber.)
