Thing is, the whole routine of Hank protecting Bates but getting the shaft because people don't know the truth feels like a classically uncomfortable sitcom misunderstanding. It's just annoying to watch.

Differing opinions? I shall not stand for it!

Can I be a snob and recommend the extended 12-inch mix of "Like a Prayer"?

I love Mariah, but will agree "Fantasy" is far and away her best single.

LOL.

mitchells peter, I say this with all due respect, but you might be a crazy person.

Ha. But at least it was back here waiting for you on FM radio in the States! I was robbed I tell ya!

Never understand the U2 hate. Unbelievable, incredible band for more or less 20 consecutive years. I get that people feel like they're sort of force-fed certain bands as being second to God, but at their best, U2 were just a punk band for nerds. And Walkerking, not sure I understand the remark about earnest energy,

Not saying this to be a dick, but the Doors were my runner-up for this Q&A, but I honestly couldn't think of a song I thought was great. Although, like everyone, I had some interesting experiences while "The End" was on in the background.

I'll cop to liking the odd Linkin Park song. They just should have ditched the hip-hop elements entirely from the beginning.

Also should mention that Prodigy was unfortunately wrapped up in that era's bro-tastic blanching of club genres. I LOVE Prodigy, and Jilted Generation is a stone classic, but dear lord, if my freshman roomate played "Firestarter" and even "Breathe" one more fucking time….

Dear god, Kottonmouth Kings. I'd need to really reserve an entire column to run down my feelings about Bloodhoung Gang et al. ICP was mixed up in all that too. Although as someone mentioned in this thread, Sublime should be considered somewhat apart from those other bands, even though they tended to be the crown jewel

Amen, Miller

That's a good call, re: Sum 41.

Re: TooMuchTime, I'm not one to just broadly rule out an artist like that, but man, 311 is just about the worst my generation had to offer.

My suitemate in college played "Down" pretty much 311 times a day, and I can honestly say I don't think I've ever felt such justified, seething contempt toward any single song or artist to this day. I simply cannot give that band a pass. Just absolutely horrid music and hateable overall vibe. (Thanks to Enkidum for

I saw this movie in the theater. Loved it. Still love it. And always think of its video-phone scenes when I Skype with anyone. At the very least, it's almost uninterruptedly fun to watch. At the time, it was also really irreverent for a blockbuster with two A-list action stars.

To each their own. For me, Guns, 'Appetite,' the 'Illusion' records (warts and all) and the whole legacy and history of the band are a cause for obsession. But suggesting Joy Division be in the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame before Guns N' Roses is just bananas. I'm not even sure they should be in there before New Order,

Great article, Emily. I saw the penultimate episode in question, and found it tragic and awkward, although I hadn't seen enough of the preceding season to have a real emotional response to any specific cast member. It's an interesting re-contextualization, and makes me want to revisit the show from a different
