It was remarkably dark for a sitcom. You had the feeling Ray and Debra would probably have been happier divorced.

Agreed. She also had quite a bit of stage presence. I could see her becoming a reliable character actress.

Just now seeing this — I watched Poltergeist last night and, although the special effects are pretty primitive, I was amazed at how well-acted the whole thing was. I'd forgotten how Dominique Dunne's Dana did have a character arc (she's this close to a nervous breakdown) and how JoBeth Williams really sold the hell
