Yeah, the closest anyone came to snapping was when the Native Americans wouldn't play music with him anymore. I was waiting for Shelly and Ed to have a moment of disillusionment, but I guess it's to the show's credit that they're just as wide-eyed at the end of the episode as they were at the start.
