With very little edits to the script, it could be pitched as a harrowing drama about bullying and sociopaths. For pete's sake, John Goodman straight-up gives a hate speech ("In the eyes of my God, my father and my coach …") to justify trashing the nerds' home again.

Sunday is my favorite Sondheim. The second half of the Patinkin and Peters recording never fails to make me cry. When you say "better actor than a singer," are we talking lousy, or just not on the level of Patinkin?

My mindset is, if the film was so dependent on Scarlett's casting, then we needed a new backstory. I think it could have been a star-making film, but will concede that the budget/hopes for franchising demanded an established star.
