Another thing people keep forgetting is that literally hundreds of people perform at UCB for free and have been for 14 years. They love it and it has a crazy success rate for producing comedy professionals. Its not for everybody, which is why not everybody has to perform there.

Thousands of people want stage time. Nobody wants to do tech.

What kitchen are you talking about? UCB doesn't have a kitchen or sell food. Its a small theater with a small bar that charges $3 for beers. Also none of their shows have 10 standups in one night.

Tech guy works 40 hours a week and gets nothing out of it but a paycheck. Performer tells jokes(which supposedly is something they love doing) for 8 minutes and gets exposure that could lead to big money.
