@Dunk
Perhaps it's worth the sacrifices and risks if Jacob is able to eventually convert The Man in Black to the side of good. Oversimplifying of course, but wouldn't it be a huge benefit to all of creation if God could convert the Devil? Perhaps the struggle has that kind of a nature to it?

Thanks Michelle, sorry 'bout my confusion.

Agreed, everyone. O'Quinn's performance in "Recon" was so amazingly subtle. When Sawyer returned from his scouting mission, there was such a quick expression on O'Quinn's face, it looked like Locke was going to rip his head off for even THINKING about lying. Then it was gone, replaced by a smile.
It reminded me of

decleacl - your story made my day.

I admit that I get bothered by the remarkably high body-count this show has. One just has to assume that most island inhabitants must be "special" to some degree, or else they wouldn't have been led to or wanted to come to such an important, amazing place. The fact that legions of these dudes can get mowed down

Are you going to tell me that "Boldly to go where no man has gone before" sounds better than "To boldly go where no man has gone before"?

I was struck by how sad and empty the alternate charcters seemed to be while disembarking the plane. I just wanted to yell at them, "Keep your heads high, dammit, every single one of you is a fucking hero, capable of doing more than you ever believed!"
It made me realize how fully dependent we are on conflict and

I have no idea if that's true or not, but thank you for that story. That's pretty awesome.

Throwing this out there…
One of my favorite, funny, cancer-related stories is the "Snowman That Could Bench-Press 400 Pounds," from This American Life.

Fuck Steubenville!
Come to Weirton, West Virginia where we put gambling establishments in every bakery and convience store!

We've got lumps of it 'round the back.

Great job, Mr. Sam Adams
(If that is your real name, you drunkard).
You asked a lot of well-thought out questions and Terry Gilliam seemed to be very interested to talk to you as a consequence.
I have to wonder what Terry called Alice in Wonderland, that the whole title had to be added during editing. Did he call it,

Also, it's pretty astonishing how little respect Leno seems to have from his peers. I suppose it's not hard to see why, but still. Doesn't he have any friends at all?

"Give it a week, Chris. This bad mojo takes some time to work. But Leno's gonna die spectacularly. "

I haven't been this mad since I lost an eighth for fleeing a battle!

"Wow - it was just a couple of weeks ago that people were making fun of him on these very boards. Nice going AV Clubbers. Now he's dead. I hope that you're all very pleased with yourselves. "
It doesn't work that way Ack Ack. Otherwise Jay Leno would be dead a hundred times over.

Okay, Jeb, using my Cormac McCarthy to Marvel Superheroes conversion chart, I'm showing that The Road and All the Pretty Horses (Amazing) are worth 50 points, and No Country (Excellent) is worth 20. I'm guessing Outer Dark would garner a 15, as Great should be between Good (10) and Excellent (20). Blood Meridian

You know who else said, "Clumsiness happens"?

Awww… a modern "The Gift of the Magi" for this holiday season.

I'm just impressed that there appears to be 2 cases of the collective unconscious at work at the top of the thread.
