Andre Norton
Having spent much of my childhood wedged in the Andre Norton section of my local library, I feel compelled to make a few observations.
I spent years reading all the Andre Norton I could get my hands on, but in retrospect, I admit that it was probably because I was ignorant of the existence of

Ice Pirates.
The movie hasn't aged well, and a lot of the shit that I thought was funny as an adolescent is, in retrospect, pretty fucking stupid. However, there's still plenty of almost Monty Python-like over-the-top jokes and a lack of polictical correctness that is actually refreshing in this day and age.

Hobo or evil clown?
A hobo once offered to suck my dick for a dime once.
Why can't I find deals like that anymore?

@Xocha:
No time for vengeance - we're all too busy trying to catch up on the "A Game of Thrones" series. Besides, we're a fractious lot and even more disorganized than the Democratic party.

Ellison
Mr. Ellison always is a great interview. Even though he is always wordy, he never grows tiresome.
I was personally struck by Tasha's question of sci-fi fans not living up to their potential and Harlan's roundabout acquiescence.
We nerds have great insight into the potentialites of our world because we have

Death of the American Dream
I love the Venture Brothers because of its brilliant sense of humor but it stands above its competition due to its suprising depth. It wonderfully illustrates the "death of the American dream" (as thoroughly as Hunter S. Thompson ever did [a pseudo-Hunter even makes a guest appearence in

"The Long Walk" is a great comparison. I remember thinking that the premise was ludicrous (it's all because of "The Dictator"), but King did such an amazing job of telling the story, I believe that its one of his best works.
There's just something intensely gripping in a narrative when the stakes are high and you

Marge, the Real Estate Broker: Do you have children?
Waldemar: As often as we can.

@Al Tilley
Yeah the guy (obviously) left quite an impression on me. I've never read anything that was so confessional and confrontationally indignant at the same time. As he continued the post the same thing, over and over, you could watch everyone's attitude change from, "this guy's weird and out there" to "this

Sorry to disappoint you, AJR, but multiple posting was part of the joke.
(I guess if I have to explain it, it's not really much of a joke. I was hoping the long-term AV clubbers would appreciate it, though).

no hentai for me
I just wanted to take this opportunity to describe my deep love of furbie porn. Furbie sex is just as healthy as normal sex, but the sex act is performed with a stuffed animal. Best of all, feminists can't complain, because there are no live women being degraded or objectified.

Charlie Daniels' football philosophy
He's right on one count: You should never lay your hand on a Pittsburgh Steeler fan.

She WAS previously married. You don't happen to be a volunteer firefirghter in Ohio, do you?

So what movies DO you like. Geez.
To me, Fight Club is a testament to what good movie-making is all about.

I'm pretty sure that would be my ex-girlfriend who was laughing at all the gory parts. Be very careful - she bites. (However, she will drink any of the expressed blood, so it is a very clean experience).

No one's probably still reading this, but…
The S.S. Itari is mixed up and blind.

A MYOF request
Speaking of Dom DeLuise, was "Fatso" a flop?
The movie has a special place in my heart for disturbing me as a little kid, then disturbing me some more when I became an adult and realized that it was apparently a comedy. (IMDB doesn't have a whole lot to say about it).
