I love, love, love The Lone Ranger. It definitely has flaws, but it's a lot of fun, smart, and hugely ambitious.

I thought I had read that the sister had actually lived, but clearly I was incorrect.

I waited for years for Disney to release Only Yesterday on video and I finally downloaded it a couple of years ago. I was somewhat disappointed. I liked it a lot, to be sure, but there was something I didn't like about the artwork. My Neighbors the Yamadas is my least favorite Ghibli film by quite a distance. I like

Lars von Trier =/= Grave of the Fireflies. This is not cinematic sadism, and choosing to watch it isn't masochism. This isn't horrible for the sake of being horrible. Yes, I guess if you're suicidal and the contents of a work of art will push you over the ledge, then don't watch it. But everyone who can stomach it

A little bit, I suppose, but I expected to be bowled over and I was just, well, not. I feel like someday I'll give it another look, but it just didn't move me that first viewing.

Too many people here saying, "Don't watch it! It's too sad!" That's horrible. Yes, it's sad, and I can imagine someone not wanting to see it a second time, but this is truly one of the finest films ever made and it will make you a better person if you watch it. So nut up and watch the fucking movie, God dammit.

I don't think he really has enough great films for that really to be true, but between this and Pom Poko (which actually might be my favorite Ghibli film) it's definitely arguable.

Are there people who are actually that stupid?

Well, he was also starving and malnourished, even if he was eating more than she was. I have to imagine if you're suffering like that it would be very difficult not to eat whatever fell into your hands the instant it did.

I'm sure I've seen it at least twice.

Hey, they were having plenty of fun until that one kid died.

Yes, he could have at least realized he didn't have the abilities to take care of the sister. He could have left her with the aunt and gone out on his own if he wanted to.

Not a single main character dies in Watership Down (not even in the book). Even the villain is rumored to have survived at the end.

You know, I really didn't find When the Wind Blows that affecting. I was extremely eager to see it for years, and maybe the expectations were just too high (it always gets mentioned alongside Fireflies), but it didn't do much for me at all.

I doubt D'Angelo has high octane blood.

The Doof Warrior carries out the executions, duh.

I think admitting to not liking MMFR should result in an automatic stint at a mental hospital. When they are released they become doof warriors.

I'm very much with Britta Perry on Avatar. It may make me a monster to despise it, but I'll proudly declare myself a monster.

That opinion seems insane to me. Even the imagery seemed entirely derivative. The whole thing looked like a Yes album cover.

"Even a film that's considered to have received "universal acclaim"—let's take Mad Max: Fury Road
as a current example—gets some reviews that are less than completely
ecstatic, written by folks who think it's just pretty good." These people deserve nothing better than execution!
