@avclub-4a51fda79bbd54b4e7327dd6559b6c4d:disqus Ohhhh I just can't. I watched a couple of episodes with friends who are mad about it. I know it's awesome to the people it's made for but it wasn't made for me.
I feel like saying "I don't get fantasy" would be disservice to fantasy and to game of Thrones which I

Well I love this show and agree with all of Todd's evaluations. And my friends all love it. Honestly this might just be the case where you need to make the concession that your tastes aren't going to be suited to it and let it exist in that same space that Game of Thrones exists for me

so much of the Emmys seems to be driven by what gets people watching. it makes sense for Modern family to get all the awards despite being ridiculously mediocre because everyone will be tuning in to the Emmys to watch Phil Dunphy and Sofia Vergara's breasts.

why would positive spin generate hits if nobody liked it? really, by that logic, they should be putting a negative spin on it to attract everyone who wants their negative opinions validated

@patagonianhorsesnake:disqus I'd wondered if maybe that was why. It might not be worth it if it will be detrimental to your health

@patagonianhorsesnake:disqus it transcends the serial killer genre and the gore and is worth it I promise. If it's a pavlovian response and you just can't ever handle such grim subject matter I get it… but it's so good it's at least worth giving it a try to see if you can deal with it.

i know it's weird but the murders ARE beautiful. That guy with the cello through his neck? Disgusting. but the way he was propped up on stage with that spotlight on him? i couldn't stop looking.

I was surprised too! It felt like such a well plotted story. I can't even begin to imagine what the second series will be like now having everything planned in advance

I wasn't necessarily surprised that it didn't get any noms - but they certainly deserved them.

I feel like this show is so many different things we've seen a lot of before - crime procedural, gothic serial killer fiction, character drama, psychological/surrealist horror - while also being completely different to anything I've seen in a long time. Fuller has said he drew most of his inspiration from David Lynch

the show is extremely surreal and follows a lot of dream logic so I had to learn to overlook what i felt was "too implausible" pretty quickly. that shot of the human totem pole on the beach with the vast, forboding ocean (lake?) behind it was so striking it is permanently etched on my brain

I was screaming "NO NO NO NO NO" when that happened, everyone in the neighborhood must have heard me. I wasn't expecting that to happen at all, and it was awful. it wasn't the grossest moment for me (the mushroom graveyard was probably the closest I came to wanting to throw up) but it was the most upsetting.

Between the AV Club and Tumblr, the internet is really not helping my obsession with this show

god you're getting it so wrong lol it must be such a drag hating something you can't even understand.

this is one of my favourite throaway Simpsons moments.

I love Lisa's crushes. "Well read, and just a little wild…"

I was going to register my distaste with your comment but I decided to give your link a try first. I figured it was only fair to do so.

"what followed that…"

"I'm sorry I couldn't protect you in this life."
