I'm so hoping that this was Bernard Herrmann (who composed the opening theme), and not Johnny Western (the closing "paladin paladin, where do you roam…" song), on the carnival circuit

Yeah, prize committees have a spotty history with this kind of thing.
No. It was terrible.
It's weird, any time a reviewer quotes a song/movie/book to show that it is unimaginative and low quality, I only get more interested. Like, "suck this dick, swallow that nut, and call it penis-colada" song—- I've got to hear it. Matter of fact, he should have made that the title of the album.
(Really a reply to @avclub-4c7dad974f6cd6dd2ce6e8a7e438fca8:disqus, but Disqus won't let comments nest that deep)
Biz Markie's "T.S.R. (Toilet Stool Rap)"
American country music is actually pretty well known in Ireland although I don't really understand why. Maybe it's all the songs about drinkin', fightin', and feelin' guilty about it.
Crazy! I also used that 321 Contact article to talk myself into being allowed to watch MacGyver. I was not, however, allowed to watch Father Dowling or Wheel of Fortune.
Agreed—- generally, there is no comparison between Brooks and Morris.
I dunno, my personal view of the "rationale behind this number" is that the song is just awful.

Where have you been? "A White Man's Life and Liberation in the World of Soul" is one of the dominant themes (maybe *the* dominant theme) of popular music criticism. It's as far from "what's next" as you can get.

I was hoping this would get a little more specific to the experience of using Windows 95. Instead, the joke just seems to be what people can think of to write in those boxes (couldn't you do that with any OS? are any of them actually funny?)…

I can't be the only one who is going to read this book because I lived in that area during most of that decade (and for no other reason)

I'm rappin to the beat and I rap it up tight
I rap in the morning and I rap 'til I'm done
And everybody knows that I'm number one
'Cause I'm rappin

I'm rap-rap-rappin
I'm rappin
I'm rappin
I'm rappity-rappin
I'm rappin

I'm rap-rap-rappin

I'm looking forward to this. I like Birbiglia a lot and think the move toward one-man shows, books, films, etc was a good one.
