Fritz! To the luggage machen!
Fritz! To the luggage machen!
"Another couple balls and an extra set of fingers?"
Planes Trains and Automobiles…
…contains the best performances ever from Steve Martin and John Candy. A Thanksgiving staple around my household, and I still tear up during the end sequence. Underrated masterpiece.
Nerd Alert!
Chechik was played by the same actor who (SPOILERS FOR 18-YEAR OLD GAME) played the bad guy werewolf Von Glower in the PC game Gabriel Knight 2: The Beast Within.
The Bowie Song…
…is from the Outside album, which is an unfairly shat-upon masterpiece. Recommended.
Yes, but just wait until the Errol Morris documentary about the Japanese internments during World War 2, tentatively titled: "Also, Dude, Chinaman is Not the Preferred Nomenclature. Asian-American, Please."
Saw Haggard with Dylan…
… three years ago in concert, Haggard opened —- and fucking blew Dylan off the stage. Seriously, everyone I talked to afterwards pretty much said "yeah, Dylan was Dylan, but goddamn I forgot Merle Haggard was such a badass".
One of my favorite non-fiction sports books is "Massacre at Winged Foot" by Dick Schaap, about the 1974 US Open. Compelling, revealing, and totally absorbing —- even though I don't care for golf one bit. You can also read it in about two hours.
We're looking forward to seeing you in the field, Mr. Denton.
Marlowe The Series
Does anyone else remember the Powers Boothe series on HBO called "Marlowe"? I remember it as being pretty darn good at the time, though I haven't seen it in years. Boothe was a pretty terrific Marlowe as I recall.
Many thanks for the clarification!
Dean Martin?
Didn't Dean Martin do a movie version of one of these yahoos?
Ha! Yup, fell for it hook line and sinker.
At Least Jordan Has An Excuse…
…in that he's, erm, dead.
It's funnier because it comes off as a form letter, with "AVCLUB" and "STALKER" having been inserted via Microsoft Word mail merge.
Satan Seen Wearing Parka!
"Mo'Nique, in a revelatory performance" —- five words I never thought I'd read together in that sequence.
I seem to remember when the "Serenity" comic-book tie-ins were being published that there were multiple reports of Fillion being pretty much a jerk when going to stores and buying copies of it.
Mission: Impossible…
…was a top-notch movie in my book. It was exactly what I'd expect from a movie version of the show, and the Langley scene (and frankly, the opening mission in Prague) are among the best spy sequences in film. It's also a smart movie, which tends to be unusual for summer blockbusters starring Tom…
In the same vein (insofar as both AYBS and this show were on back-to-back on PBS) , did anyone else like 'Allo 'Allo? I thought it was pretty funny.
Don't forget MI-5. That show was the balls.
