Punk to most people these days sounds like what punk became in the 80s. Before then, it was more of an umbrella term that had more to do the DIY aspect of it. Blondie was considered punk.

I saw No Age in Austin in March play a generator powered show on a pedestrian bridge at about 3 in the moring. I stood with about one person between the drummer and myself. They kicked ass, and I remember thinking that that was as close as I've been to the "DIY ethos" of punk, without irony.

His drumming sounds like a drum machine. What is the point of having a live drummer if he sounds like a clean crisp drum machine? I would think that a live drummer in a hip hop band would want to sound more like the dirty funk drummers that were sampled in the early 90s.
