God dammit!
God dammit!
I'm gonna go ahead and fess up to liking these enough for a mention:
-MGMT, Oracular Spectacular
-Frightened Rabbit, The Midnight Organ Fight
More!
Every damn time I do this, I end up realizing I forgot some records. So, consider these honorable mentions as well:
OK, actually, I probably wouldn't actually run an article saying "get baked and bike in the Arboretum," but I won't try to stop you either.

Hi Schmeekly and BM: Yes, more features is, in part, the direction we want to go in with this, and the sort of things you mentioned are pretty much up our alley. Thanks for the suggestions. Hope to keep hearing your feedback via the site.
Well, PB, if an out-of-towner comes in and finds it useful, that'll make me pretty happy. Let us know what you think! Here's hoping it leads you to a good meal/drink/show.
Factory? I believe the preferred term is "secluded cabin."
PVL, I definitely see what you mean, and I more or less like all those bands, too. But I think they're all pretty distinct. It's only fair to ask, "Why should I listen to this as opposed to any other pretty/folk-y/spooky artist out there?" and, well, this record gave me some pretty good reasons to pay attention. And I…
Hey folks, there is definitely supposed to be a track stream here. We'll look into it and fix you up.
Yes, Mike Yanagita! "You're such a super lady and I'm… so lonely!"
Found at…
Might as well give a shout to El Suprimo Records, the little Baltimore shop where I found my copy: http://tinyurl.com/2rh9lj
It's weird. I've read reviews that say Ted Leo's same-y and reviews that say he's eclectic. Maybe that means he's just that good at uniting a lot of different elements. There are some strong constants that make any given Ted Leo song easy to identify, but I'm with Jason on this one.
I'm officially surprised
at the response and overall graciousness/intelligence of the comments on this piece. Thanks, folks—I fully expected to be derided as a pretentious hipster prick for this one. Probably because listening to Beulah for more than a couple hours at a time makes one cynical and distrustful. Anyways,…
Flower Power, Spee, Emeril
Flower Power: I think that's the first time a commenter has said something about my writing itself, other than just call it lazy, so thanks! And about my take on the record as a whole, I hope it doesn't come off as too negative. I did enjoy this album, just so's you know.
Assorted responses
Five Alive: Well, the episode's still streaming for free at adultswim.com (I'd give you an actual link but the comments are weird about HTML right now).
Frisky Dingo
Joseph and AJR: Oh, on the contrary, I love Frisky Dingo, (and Squidbillies and sometimes Assy McGee). So I don't feel it's an insult to call it moronic, as it kind of takes pride in its own goofiness (but yeah, it's also kind of brilliant).
Not bad things!
Rah: I certainly didn't mean "kinetic" and "charismatic" negatively. I just mean he moves around a lot, which is part of the fun, especially live. The amount of motion is actually a bit unreal/unexpected at times.
Headshot
Jizbam: Ha! I don't know. If I had a photo that captured my flowing, shiny mane like that, I'd stick with it. Wouldn't you?
Assorted responses
Hatin: Indeed, there was plenty of fashion to go around. Shoulder bags, tight jeans, etc.
