Well, I meant more the whole "god" part of deus ex machina, with the spirits potentially intervening.

You know, really the only thing I might quibble with is that, if this were a
different show, this probably would have been the moment that you end Toph's story, let her go down in a blazing fury, sacrificing herself to save her entire family.

I mean, Wu did still sort of kick ass (as he was chasing it) in his Wu sort of way…

“Lin, Suyin, Wing, and Wu kick major ass…”

I love the way Suyin fights. She’s an earthbender who moves like Aang. Her fight with Kuvira was the episode’s standout action moment, I thought.

Mako fighting and taking down Ming-Hua was probably it. That was rather awesome. Brief, but awesome.

I think Tenzin is more than that. He's a guy forced into the "calm and wise spiritual mentor figure" who is not at all calm or really very spiritual.

Definitely agree with this.

That's an interesting observation about the difference between Avatar and Korra. (Let's forget for just a second that the official title for the original in some regions was actually "Avatar: The Legend of Aang.")

You know, while I love the idea of Zombie Amon, Varrick shouldn't really need to make him a zombie in his mover.

You do have different animators working for Mir, and I'm sure there are some who are better than others, even scene to scene.

Six, including this one.

While I agree with the basic sentiment, those clips of Korra and Unalaq arguing were from "A New Spiritual Age," which was in fact animated by Studio Mir. They animated the back half of Book 2 (with the exception of "The Guide").

Agree with the sentiment that the entire show should have been done as a Varrick "mover," seeing just how twisted a story the writers could come up with reusing animation with voice-overs and new dialogue. And then use whatever fan-servicey framing device you can devise.

"Why were there wanted posters for Bolin and Varrick if they were already assumed dead?"

You could definitely see the writers working hard to give Korra a lot of victories this week after having Kuvira pummel her last week. Any fears that she was going to mope until the finale should be gone, I hope.

I really thought they might kill Zuko last season just to up the menace of the Red Lotus. Now I'm wondering if they might do that with Toph to up Kuvira's menace.

Toph is so going to go all Melon Lord on Kuvira's army.

Have to disagree.

Victory with cost for the hero almost always makes for better drama than one without.
