"I think someone said it last week that Insurrection fails because it's constantly lowering the stakes."

They're also used as a way to separate syllables from each other, if it's not obvious from looking at the word.  With the apostrophe, we know that it's pronounced BA-ku, not bak-U.

Kirk:He'll DIE in there!
Scotty:He's dead already.

I really wish they had kept Kes and dumped Neelix and Harry.  The fact that they kept Harry because of Wang's sex appeal makes me sad.

SPOILERS FOR STAR TREK XI

Let's not forget as well that Insurrection takes place DURING THE DOMINION WAR.  It's inconceivable that they couldn't have done something with that, instead of tossing it off as a throwaway line.

I think you could have done a plot similar to the plot of Star Trek: The Motion Picture.  Something like: the TNG crew investigates a stellar phenomenon that threatens to swallow the galaxy, and discovers that it has Nexus-like properties.  Basically, something that makes you think.

Jadzia certainly did.  And she liked McCoy, for that matter.

Oh, yes!  Who could forget Chief Engineer Argyll?  He was the BEST.

Instead, the face of somebody indistinct (F. Murray Abraham, maybe?) is on the poster.

One of the things I love about the AV Club Trek boards is that, when someone is confused, we'll help him out rather than call him vulgar epithets.

They have bouncing ball karaoke lyrics, but they don't have tabbed windows.  The future is a weird place, but its where you and I will spend THE REST OF OUR LIVES.

I can't get behind your appreciation for License to Kill.  I agree that Dalton's performance is underrated, but License to Kill is just so badly written and directed.  Dalton does his best with terrible material.

In the ENT episode 'Damage', the show deliberately leaves it open as to whether the Enterprise crew are the villains.  I think that would be a counter-example.

There's also the fact that Data would immediately get over it and alter his behavior to compensate.

I got to say that I didn't find it particularly entertaining.  Throughout the whole of Insurrection, I found it just kind of uninvolving.  The depiction of the Bak'u was just so bland that I never felt that much was at stake for these guys.  I also never felt that the Son'a were a credible threat for the crew of the

I remember your Drumhead firstie, ToddG.  It was top notch work.

This raises a most troubling point: if the live chat on Nemesis is going to be moderated by the AV Club, how can we continue the meta-commentary on ourselves?

And that's with 22-hour days!

Well, to be fair, they power his augs.
