Really, I think we should be using the HSV colour system, in which you have separate dimensions of hue, saturation, and luminance/brightness. So you get which colour it is, how bright it is, and how pure it is, and with a little bit of training it becomes really easy to tell them apart. Plus…  ah, never mind.

Maybe one difference is that movies are meant to be consumed by sitting on your ass and watching them, whereas pop music is often meant to move your ass. So in the former case, there's a lot more role for conscious intellect, but in the latter, a lot more leeway for just whatever makes your head nod.
