I'm not sure their comments came out of nowhere. My guess is that, similar to all other reality shows, the off-camera interviewer asked the racers, "Sooooo…these people are Buddhists. How do you feel about that?", and a few of them took the bait (and/or they didn't show the responses of some of the others).
