As a huge Tardi fan, I've had this on order at my LCS for months now (it showed up in Previews in June or July), so I'm just glad that it finally came out. I didn't want to have to read West Coast Blues again just to tide me over.

I, for one, really enjoyed seeing Dash Shaw's take on Spider-man and Mysterio. It was only a four-pager, but I thought it worked really well, even if I've had trouble articulating exactly what it does so well. To see Spider-man burst out of the page and to have the story revert to "audio commentary-like dialogue" told

"Best brush in comics" might be a bit of an overstatement. I've always liked Burns, but his line work can be a bit too bold for me, in a way that seems to impart genre constraints before I'm even sure what genre he's supposed to be working in. To elaborate, everything he does has a touch of surreality to me, even his

We've got CLiNT over here in the states, too, Staples. I perused it (I work at a comic book store) and wasn't impressed. I was surprised to see that Turf #1 was put into the magazine in its entirety.

Seconded. I formally request an article that fully explains Leonard's Unified Theory Of Batman.

Fantastic Four and S.H.I.E.L.D.
Your assessment of The Fantastic Four is more than fair. It really did feel like a placeholder. That said, the last two pages worked as a great reveal for some upcoming greatness.

Manga
What manga series are my fellow AV Clubbers reading?

Anyone who's interested in found footage and old 80s-90s public access stuff should check out this man's youtube channel:

I've seen Nick and Joe do their third tour of the FFF and I just recently saw Everything Is Terrible in Denver. I enjoy EiT more than I do the Found Footage guys, but they're also doing two different things.

Even if this doesn't turn into a weekly review column, I think it'd be great if they considered doing something like the "TV Club" reviews for comics. I mean, monthly reviews of "The Unwritten" or "SHIELD" or "Batman and Robin"?

Formal Request: Make This Column Weekly
Seriously. Why hasn't this happened yet?

I myself am quite excited about Valkyria Chronicles 2.

Eden
The preview on D&Q's website looked a bit hit-and-miss. Some of the pages were down right beautiful, as well as arresting in their simplicity. Others read like one-page one-liners. Worse were those that seemed to joke in the twee-est of manners.

Looks like mad did a fine job outlining most of the stuff up above. I somehow missed this yesterday.

Planetary Extras
Can anyone (staffers included) tell me what extras are included in the Planetary Absolute edition? I'm thrilled it got the A it deserved (some of the second arc stories are my favorite stories in the comics medium and are certainly the best Ellis ever wrote), but wonder if its supplemental materials

No Clever Name beat me to it, udjibborn, but Asterios Polyp was easily one of the best graphic novels to have come out last year; one that could also have contended for the AV Club's "Best of the decade" list had it not come out so close to the deadline.

Shoulda reviewed…
The Man With The Getaway Face. Considering it's a 24-page standalone story that serves as the prologue to Cooke's forthcoming Parker book, The Outfit, it should've been reviewed. That's okay, though.

Tim Rogers' terrible article aside, Bangai-O is great.

That's great news, Bouv. The book benefited from a really close, well-honed relationship between the script and the art, so hopefully Rucka's departure won't leave the character any less engaging (or relevant).

Batwoman: Elegy
I was hoping for a write-up of Batwoman: Elegy this week, but alas, I'll have to wait (or never get one). Really, though, I don't need the AV Club's vindication to know that it's one of the best Detective Comics arcs to have come around last decade.
