Ring ring
In 1998, did Ed Burns get a call from around 2001 and hear the sound of his career dying?

Oh, also: One of the bad things about buying from BN.com is that, because B&N has brick-and-mortar stores in every state, you have to pay sales tax. So there's that.

On the subject of Barnes and Noble and expensive graphic-novel collections (or any book, for that matter): B&N's prices usually don't compare well to Borders or online retailers like Amazon, except when you have a B&N coupon redeemable online, because you get the coupon's discount in addition to any other discounts —

"The Curse of the Cat People" is one of my favorite movies. It's got everything you could want: the Headless Horseman, Simone Simon as a maternal ghost/imaginary playmate who is dressed like a belly dancer, an actor whose actual name was Sir Lancelot … everything except cat people. There are none of those. And that

Glad that you mentioned "The Changeling," which is indeed a terrific ghost story/mystery. George C. Scott is damn good in that movie, such an underrated actor. Cool setting, too — I love Seattle.

That was called a joke.

Sick of Wimpy Ghosts
I loved "The Devil's Backbone," but I'm sick of sympathetic ghosts who turn out to be vengeful victims instead of malevolent forces of evil. That's one of the things that makes "The Innocents" such a great film; the ghosts are child-corrupting and depraved — just plain bad.

When I was in my early teens, for some reason I only skimmed through most parts of the book, while other parts I read numerous times. Hm.

Burlap Face
I definitely want to see this. I like all of the separate ingredients, so I'm assuming I'll like the whole dish, but sometimes that's not the case.

I haven't had praliens since the last time I was in New Orleans. I'm a vegetarian now, but pralien bacon is also delicious. I recommend Elizabeth's in the Bywater neighborhood. They've gone through a few different owners since Katrina, but the new guy is supposed to be doing a good job.

This comment is late and will be unread, I'm sure, but, as a former religious scholar — I like to think I've developed a pretty clear, critical eye for religion — I was surprised at the degree of intellectual laziness in the "Bah, Hanukkah" piece when I read it. Hitchens does indeed pick and choose "facts" (many

I'm a student of Romani culture and have had personal relationships with Holocaust death-camp survivors who were not Jewish (nor Romani, for that matter), but the Final Solution was the Nazis' answer to their Jewish Question. For their part, Holocaust memorials or museums are inclusive of other people who were

Man, I only wish I would have seen "Lager SSadis Kastrat Kommandantur" before I gave out so many copies as Hanukkah presents. In my defense, though, the DVDs had the alternate title "SS Experiment Love Camp."

On further consideration, the best subject line would have been, simply, "BITCHENS" — short, sweet, more in keeping with Z0DIAC's trademark style. Like a form of Tourette's where you can only speak the truth.

It just occurred to me — and I'm surprised this wasn't the case — but the subject line for this comment surely should have been something like "CHRISTOPHER BITCHENS" or "QUIT YER BITCHIN', CHRISTOPHER HITCHENS." Come on, Z0DIAC, stay on your game.

Best comment so far. There's not much that's more headache-inducing than people, including me, justifying their religious beliefs and arguing against others — on a pop-culture website, at least.

I can relate. To a degree.
I used to work in an office where someone would tack up on our message board free promotional tickets to McDonald's shows whenever he'd come to town. The same things would pass through my mind that you've written here. I never took any of the tickets, though.

Early-nineties movie-dork lameness
Although 1994 probably isn't my favorite movie year, it was around the time my interest in film became a serious one. I was in high school, growing up on a farm in the middle of nowhere, but at about the same time that I got a driver's license, Blockbuster built the first big video

Three Colors
I can't believe there was no mention of Krzysztof Kieslowski's "Three Colors" trilogy, two-thirds of which was released in 1994 (I think "Blue" came out in fall of '93).

Saint Christopher
I wonder why God, if such a being exists (which I, personally, doubt), cares what anybody believes. In my opinion, what matters most is how we act, toward each other and our planet; Heaven or Hell is what we make of this world, not what awaits us in the next.
