Agreed, on both points. I'm not a big fan of the new Hold Steady Album but the insinuation that they used to take a winking approach to classic rock and now that there's less of an "ironic posturing" their appeal is lost. If you need a condescending distance to enjoy their sound then you probably never were a fan.
