Since I've seen a couple people make comments about optimized versions of old Lucasarts titles I'd like to mention a few things. I know the website oldgames.sk sells modernized versions of the X-Wing and Tie Fighter games (don't ask me about the legality of it, though…) Additionally, you can find Dark Forces bundled

You mention Seventh Seal and Wild Strawberries and those are as good places to start as any. After that I would move on to the trilogy (Through a Glass Darkly, Winter's Light and Silence). He has a lot of other great films in the fifties and sixties that you could explore such as: Persona, Virgin Spring, Shame, Hour

I would disagree. Kirby continued to do interesting, sometimes good and sometimes great work after leaving Marvel at the end of the 60's. His New Gods stuff is some of the best work of his entire career. It's really Lee whose post 60's work is lacking (which would be putting it kindly.)

The worst thing about Boondock Saints is when you run into people who not only don't realize it's just a stale Tarantino/Woo rip-off but see it as some profound Christian statement. I've met several people who see it as a "good Christian movie" and apparently are struck on some deep level by the "spirituality" of it.

Tasha, I think the difference here, and the thing that annoyed everybody, was that Palmer specifically said that she wanted people to play onstage with her because she couldn't afford the 35K neccesary to pay them. If she had stated from the begining that it was just fans playing for fun I don't think anyone would

Oh man, because it was Star Wars I got obsessed with that game and skipped right over Magic. After building many decks and getting thousands of cards I started to get into other games like Legend of the Five Rings and came to realize that, yeah, the Star Wars game was way over complicated and rather clunky. I do

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but isn't Sandman supposed to be taking place in the mainstream DC universe? I wonder if anyone has ever attempted to reconcile the mythology of the Sandman with things like the Spectre or the New Gods. Come to think it, I thought I remember reading about Gaiman and some other writer

I was bored at work the other day and I compiled a Top 20 Comics list. I had Sandman at number 8. Thinking about it now I feel like the only things I would subtract points for would be its sprawling nature and rotating art teams. Though I do love Sandman (and, granted, I haven't read it for many years) those two

I was thinking Red Tent was an American production for some reason (I guess cause it's in English?) but Prince Pauper is correct, it is in fact an Italian-Russian co-production. Whoops, I am teh dumb.

I've seen The Red Tent! It's a good film but definitely weaker than Cranes, Letter or Cuba. I don't know if he was getting older or if there were issues in working with an American studio but it lacks the bravura visual storytelling of his best works.

Yeah, Liftter Puller is amazing. Star Wars Hips and Secret Santa Cruz are both great but I think I might have to pick Prescription Sunglasses as my favorite Lifter Puller song. It doesn't sound like their other stuff at all, really, but it's a great little melancholy indie rock song. And on the opposite end of the

I know bitching about awards is pretty pointless… but no nomination for TREE OF LIFE!?!?!?!

It's happened before… I remember seeing a poster or billboard for the first Captain America film (late 70's?) and it just said CREATED BY STAN LEE.  Which isn't even a case of an artist getting screwed out of credit but and artist and writer getting screwed at once (Marvel has nothing if not the ability to screw many,

I have the four issues of Prez and it's pretty awesome. Joe Simon's best writing has a crazy, unhinged creativity to it that can be really fun to read (see also: Fighting American!)

I've done some PA work and know people who do quite a bit of it and there is some truth to what you say. That being said, if a person's interests lie closer to screenwriting and/or directing then that sort of advice isn't really helpful. PAs don't get promoted to the director's chair.
To do that you need experience

Yeah, Bob Kane was a giant asshole. For starters, he used ghost artists extensively throughout his entire career. Also, as somone else mentioned, he screwed over Bill Finger and Jerry Robinson to acquire complete credit of Batman and the Batman characters from DC. In comic book circles Bob Kane is generally considered
