A good example of a completely amoral, over-the-top noir is Born to Kill with Lawrence Tierney and Claire Trevor. Worth checking out. I loved watching this movie; it's the kind of movie you might find at the damp end of your backyard if you lifted up a rock.

When I first saw The Tenant, I didn't know that Polanski was in the movie. I quite enjoyed his performance, not knowing it was the director.

John Buscema
I ws always a big fan of John Buscema. His work on Conan was first rate. I liked it when he was inked by Ernie Chan, but he was even better on his own. I just picked up a copy of King Conan #8, and the cover, entirely by Buscema, is incredible. His story telling was very inventive, His mixture of angles

I remember reading Moon Knight when it came out. It really was a dark and specific world to itself. Seemed to exist outside of the Marvel universe.

Karl Schroeder's Virga books have many steampunk elements.

I keep looking for old MADs at used book and comic book stores, but they seem to be rare these days. I used to quite like Dave Berg and Don Martin. Who can forget the flesh cubes attached to the ripped off Band-Aid. I also liked the large, flat feet bent at 90 degrees.

I totally loved Inland Empire, although I watched it over a few nights. I'm one of the few people I know who liked Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me. Speaking of Lost Highway, whatever happened to Bill Pullman. I quite liked him; he was perfect for the kind of noirish role he had in Lost Highway.

She was very good in Lars and the Real Girl. I quite liked that film; her scenes with Ryan Gosling are quite affecting.

Vagabond is incredible.

In Cleo from 5 to 7, I love the reflections in the shop windows, cars and mirrors all mixed together.

I'd like to give a shout-out to Steiner's Gone With the Wind score. When the great theme kicks in at the end of the first half…
