It was extremely difficult to turn off the new Afghan Whigs album for this but here goes:
@Liz n Dick and I had to put our gorgeous onion seedlings out into the garden this past weekend because they were dying in their seedling trays. I'll be shocked if they survived the snow/sleet storm last night. It's times like this that I'm thankful that my garden is a hobby and not sustenance farming.
I ran 4 miles without stopping for the first time ever! I'll be working up to a half marathon in… oh… let's say, six or seven years? Good luck with your race!
I'd love if that R.E.M. Unplugged magically appeared in my record collection, but I don't care enough to brave the lines at the store. It's great to live near a landmark record store because I assume it will outlive most other stores when the vinyl boom dies back down again, but it also sucks because RSD is too much…
I agree that it's sad to not have McCollum on board, but on the flip side, this is the best percussion ever on a Dulli-penned album. I was bracing myself for this to be an album that needs time to grow on me, but it grabbed me completely from the very beginning.
I'm sure a little more sunlight will do 'em good! This is the first year I've had pepper seedlings looking this robust. Usually I spend every day between March 15th and June 15th freaking out that I've killed each and every one of the seedlings and that I'm going to have to eat — ::vomits a little:: — grocery store…
I can't believe it's small pot transplanting time already! My peppers, cabbages, and half the tomatoes are transplanted now. The onions are dying (probably literally) to be transplanted into the garden proper, but it'll have to wait until the weekend.
And some Cafe Du Monde iced chicory coffee.
As someone who's lived in Phoenix and spent a fair amount of time in New Orleans in all seasons, New Orleans in the summer is the worst. I'd suggest an entire suit of ice-bucketage.
I got a good haircut yesterday, too!
Can't complain. The daffodils in my yard have finally opened, so that'll keep me happy for a while.
My favorite is one that @Liz n Dick came up with a few years ago: "My Victorian auntie is visiting." I get really squeamish about all things related to the human body, so I like how elegantly and absurdly not-blood-related it is.
Have fun at the Dean Wareham show! I had tickets to go this past weekend but was too tired so I bailed. Plus, I was pretty sure he wouldn't appreciate me standing in the back shouting requests for the only Dean Wareham song I know — "Indian Summer", a b-side from an EP put out something like 20 years ago. NEAT!
Hala Strana "Fear The Land"
Beware of Safety "Moonpark Ends"
Tomahawk "Rise Up Dirty Waters"
Mark Lanegan "Autumn Leaves"
Marc Ribot "Requiem for a Revolution"
Wires Under Tension - Electricity Turns Them On
Nine Inch Nails - Something from Ghosts
Ennio Morricone - Gil Intoccabili (Titoli)
Greg Dulli - Take The Wheel
John Zorn - Beyond the Infinite
All my early seeds are started! So far the onions and peppers are looking like the strongest, greenest, happiest seedlings I've ever grown. The tomatoes haven't sprouted yet, but I only planted them a few days ago. Liz n Dick and I also went crazy and started microgreens back in January — lettuce and cilantro. I …
Aurafil for quilting, Gloriana silk for embroidery.
I had an 8am class Freshman year in a building that had a Krispy Kreme in the lobby. Those scheming bastards had the donuts coming fresh off the line right when I'd be getting there. Thank God I don't like donuts that much. (That can't be said for ice cream — my dorm room all four years of college was directly over…
Oh man, the Singles soundtrack, the sound of my 8th grade year. The best part about it is that the only song on it I didn't like — and, in fact, truly and passionately hated — was "Nearly Lost You" and now, twenty years later, the only musician involved in that soundtrack that I listen to is Mark Lanegan. Cool…
