EXACTLY!  That's such a good analogy.  It's like college sports but with less gambling and more pop-country.  Actually, it's probably more like Div III college sports, where the quality of play's not that good, and no one is ever going to make it to the bigs, but your town isn't anywhere near any major league teams so

The best thing about watching the Voice is trying to decide what would be the funniest Melvins song the little pop-country contestants could sing ("The Water Glass" gets my vote), or if that gets boring, trying to decide what would be the funniest song for Buzz Osborne to be assigned if he were a contestant ("Mambo

Here's what I don't understand about this criticism — why do these shows have to be about the contestants becoming stars?  As a sports fan, just knowing someone will win and someone will lose is interesting enough for me.

Thanks, K. Thrace!  I may not cook at all, but I do appreciate good food!

Aw, thanks for the welcome, @avclub-32b63dd70d870580128d83e930199e1c:disqus !  I love your avatar, too, because it reminds me of my favorite t-shirt.  It said "Ceci n'est pas une pipe" and had a picture of a Super Mario Bros pipe with one of those Venus fly trap enemies in it.  Good times, good times.

I always feel a little guilty that I love that song so much since my tastes otherwise don't run so poppy, but…  It's just so dang catchy!

I feel like a bit of interloper in Food Thread since I don't cook, but as @avclub-8dd007f4a97be79c135c67999bf5b27e:disqus 's sister, I had the recent excitement of getting to try condiments from Food Threaders as a trade for some bitters.  It got me thinking that y'all should do a Food Thread Secret Santa of homemade

John Zorn "Kavanah"
Mark Lanegan "Because of This"
Melvins "The Water Glass"

This week for me is all about Jamie Saft.  I finally got my order from RareNoise of Metallic Taste of Blood and Slobber Pup.  MTOB has been on my "must buy" list for months and months but for some reason I kept dragging my feet on getting it.  What the fuck was I thinking?!  I could have been listening the fuck out of

A few years ago, I was making peanut butter cookies with M&Ms.  I happened to be snacking on fresh air-popped popcorn while mixing up the cookies.  I was at the step in the recipe that had me mixing sugar and peanut butter with butter when I realized I was looking at the ingredients for the greatest snack known to

Clusty, bitches!

These folks just recorded with the Afghan Whigs!  I'm wriggling like a puppy with excitement for new music from Dulli & Co, and I can only imagine it will be even better for the inclusion of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band.

@avclub-6beb5f589a9fd04c21fcd50db3d9c80c:disqus I have a physical copy of Lullabies to Paralyze (CD and DVD) that's all yours if you want it!  If you're interested, drop me a line via thereallizndick@gmail.com.

What's fabulous is that it doesn't even require that much perfect timing!  On lighter days, I go from when I get up to when I go to bed without needing to attend to it at all!  Seriously, it's a massive life-changer.  If I weren't so squicked out by bodily functions, I would proselytize the Diva Cup to every woman I

Oh my gosh, I'm also terrified of being imprisoned for a crime I didn't commit!  Going to prison in general is something I worry about a lot.  I also watch a lot of Law & Order, and at home I go by a pretty common goofy nickname.  I was watching an episode with my family where one of the characters is a whack job who

I'm also terrified of hitting someone with my car.  I'd never considered the kid angle.  ::shudder::  Actually, now that I think about it, I'd never considered the angle that anyone, adult or kid, would die as a result.  I just get scared that I'll make some stupid mistake behind the wheel and end up in jail.  Great,

My problem with crosswalks is I work in a large town/small city that has the unholy combination of insane drivers, lots of pedestrians, and almost no crosswalks.  There was a big push from the township a few years ago to educate every one that pedestrians have the right of way by law at every corner, regardless of the

I've been using a Diva Cup for about 2 years and I have no idea how I lived without out it.  It's amazing.  As for being comfortable, once I got the little handle thing trimmed down, I never even notice it's there.  It's definitely messy in the clean-up department, but it's so worth it.  I love not having to think

My cat loves shower time, too!  Only instead of parading around after the shower, he waltzes into the bathroom as I'm getting ready, plunks down on the bathmat, and proceeds to give himself a bath.  Then as soon as I turn the shower on, he waltzes back out.  He does this every day, like clockwork. It's like he thinks

I think a lovely shade of gray is always welcome in any project, but this one sounds perfect!  You should go for it!  You can always make a bunch of squares and then see how it looks laid out before committing.  At worst, you have a bunch of squares ready for future projects and at best, you have a gorgeous afghan!
