"Space travel is a given now"
No, it really isn't. We are reliant on Russia to get our astronauts to low Earth orbit, and humans haven't been beyond LEO for almost 40 years.

A signed Elvis Gratton poster, a puppy descended from the Littlest Hobo, and all the 4 leftover whenever anyone spends Canadian dollars at par.

Now that I think about it, the previous series is Caves of Androzani, which is pretty good - and would therefore only make watching this one more painful.

Ah, right, gin. I knew I was doing something wrong - beer is clearly not sufficient.

mostly harmless
There were enough nice details (Escher town, the rest of the Tardis, shout-outs to earlier incarnations) in Castrovalva to make it enjoyable, if not the best episode ever. Plus, I had had a big crush on Davison when I was 13, so there's that.

Just had two days of six hours driving each, and listened to Big Finish audios the whole way - mostly 8, but with some 7 (Dust Breeding) and 5. My brain is now thoroughly Who-addled - which is awesome. Aside from a few clodgy lines here and there, and some terrible accents (particularly, as usual, the American ones)

Unregistered Migrant is correct. I wanted to hear much more from JH on QI.

Thanks, Trekinosis. I think I'll start with 8th, since McGann's casting had so much potential left unfulfilled by the movie.

Big Finish audio stories?
I'm thinking of getting into the Big Finish audiobooks. Any recommendations?

I also don't get the love for City of Death. It's pretty good, but there is an *awful* lot of the Doctor and Romana crossing streets in Paris, for no discernable reason aside from the crew being overexcited about not filming in a quarry for once.

Archmage, I didn't realize you were a Montrealer! Don't suppose you have an extra Prince ticket, do you?

Ooooh, Bahn will be getting an angry letter from the Utah Travel Council any day now. "From National Parks to ski resorts and golf courses, beautiful Park City to historic Temple Square, sunny St George to bustling Salt Lake City to tranquil Lake Powell, Utah will surprise you with its variety."

Perhaps I'm unusual, but the current Doctor is always "my" Doctor. I started watching with Tom Baker (late night babysitting, typically) and hadn't heard about the whole regeneration thing, so when Davison showed up it BLEW MY LITTLE MIND. After that, when a T. Baker episode popped up, I wouldn't be as engaged,

I took "what he must know" to be the pregnancy, and "what he must never know" to be his death (which she reveals to him, thinking its his ganger, in the 2nd Flesh episode).

borednow, the blind are not stupid, but what person would smell/hear a strange environment and conclude that they had been transported through time to 1814?

I think he's off to meet River for the first (kinda, sorta) time (not counting baby & maybe small child versions) - the time when she falls in love with him - which is why he'd better look amazing.

Domi, I think the suddenly antagonistic humans made them decide to leave Earth, but there are still Silents out there. Maybe.

Or, along the same lines, what if her monocle lets her see out the eyes of her Ganger(s)? She's clearly pretty handy with Flesh technology.

Murray: Wasn't it fun how the Cybermats had evolved in the Next Doctor?

This video commentary on that scene by the director supports your point solidly:
