Silents will fall?
OK, so this line was ominously intoned several times last season, and I (and everyone else I assume) heard it as "Silence will fall." Now, however, we have new monsters called "The Silents" (according to the credits), and they have apparently been around for a really long time. Also, despite their

drdarkeny, I'm pretty sure you're right. They've been hinting that she kills him, and the spacesuit provides a handy disguise. It's also nice that, after the astronaut kills the Doctor, River tries to shoot the astronaut - which would be a satisfying circle if the astronaut is in fact River.

If anthropomorphism and speech really put us off eating something, wouldn't advertisers stop giving us talking M&Ms (or any of a zillion other examples of food-with-eyes characters)?

I always thought he was called the Doctor because he (or his domain) heals all wounds…

Full disclosure: a friend of mine is one of the girls on GWLBWLB. I hope that it isn't terrible, or if it is, that she comes across OK. I'm nervous for her!

Claire, any chance you're going to review Girls Who Like Boys Who Like Boys?

C'mon folks, it's not that hard:

And why is BBC America doing a TNG marathon? Are we sure those aren't backwards?

The Tiffany Aching books were what leapt to mind when I heard the topic. They are brilliant, and I will read them to my nieces when they are old enough (perhaps before).

all comms tech?
At first I was all shouty because the list only includes communications technologies (yes, computers can be used for other things, but in the songs listed they are means of communicating). Then I tried to think of any good alternatives. There are songs with other technologies that are somewhat archaic

In general, they do shoot at him, frequently. He's still around because a) he's good at talking them out of it, b) he runs away really quickly and c) he regenerates. You have heard that the Doctor regenerates, right? If not, I probably should have put a spoiler in front of that, sorry. Ah well, too late now.

I agree. I heard that line and thought, "that sounds like Mister Oncoming Storm to me", but really enjoyed how it played out.

Tilden: Because they think he is going to destroy the universe. One of the things I love about this standoff is that it isn't a grudge match - the 'baddies' are teaming together in what they genuinely believe to be the best interests of the everyone.

With ya, Tragically.

Another vote for Tennant.

Winnie D. is spot on. Tennant is still my not-so-secret-TV-boyfriend, but Smith's portrayal is fantastic. My favorite detail: the way he glances at every bit of someone's face, not just the eyes, when he's trying to understand them.

Wait a sec - are you trying to tell me there's no more Doctor Who until *Christmas*?? No fall series or anything like that???

PEM, I read that as "the guy with a skin disease stuck TO a hospital bed", and am now quite uncomfortable.

now I know what I don't like
I *hated* these books (at least, the ones I read: The Red Pony, Old Yeller, Julie of the Wolves, and Never Cry Wolf), and I just abandoned The Art of Racing in the Rain, as it seemed to be going in the same direction. Maybe publishers could work out an "Animal Snuff" symbol to warn us

Right, I'm calling bullshit on myself. There are several episodes this season I would watch (and indeed have watched) again, most notably the season opener, the Weeping Angels two-parter, and Amy's Choice. Plus, the opener makes an excellent Doctor Who intro for newbies, as long as they are accompanied by an old-timer
