Don't get me wrong, I understand why they might be sensitive to certain jokes made at their expense, but that doesn't mean they aren't quick to overreact.

I think it's a testament to the writers' skill that were able to make that joke (and a lot of the jokes from the boy band episode) work, rather than it just coming off as dated or out-of-touch. I remember a Nerdist podcast with Alex Hirsch from two or three years ago where he said they tried to use pop culture…

Nerds, of course, are well-known for their healthy senses of humor and ability to take jokes gracefully.

As a poor person from the South who used to buy into all that disgusting nonsense, I think it mostly comes down to two things:

These kind of incidents are what make me uncomfortable about the "big-game hunters are beneficial to conservation" argument. Not that I necessarily disagree, and I know that legal hunting grounds are important to conservation, it just makes me uncomfortable.
