A German Yid in Germany

Is that why John didn't want to appear in the "Up" series any more? TBB, too busy bonin'? (That's where I learned the word "barrister".)

Just reading that list made me smile again. Nothing greater than those intricate SCTV sketches, with that complete disregard for what references "the kids" might get. Or maybe Silvers was still a household name in 1981, I don't know.

I *love* historical context and the part about "Joe" was certainly interesting and well done. I just thought the balance is a bit off. Sorry for the snark. (I never read those SP review - what was the matter with them?)

I'm all for digressions but that digression was 50% of the article proper.

You thinking Kissinger…?

I also don't see punk as a big aesthetic/political/social leap forward, so maybe that's why that wouldn't be a big insult to me in the first place. There is a German writer called Max Goldt who once wrote "Twelve-tone music never sold out". That's sort of where I'm at in this apparent debate.

When "pushing the boundaries" and "being a lecherous scumbag" are that close together the status quote starts to look mighty fine though.
And I really don't know if "Duck Rock" is that important outside of the UK (and its rap scene and its standing in Hip-Hop global is interesting) and even then it's mostly as an

But where else is its brand of (perhaps mediocre, I've only seen the first season) comedy offered that you can afford to pass on it?

@avclub-d72f705337e5adcf7e33ec0381c5f5b2:disqus That's certainly true - I was thinking more specifically of the "épater la bourgeoisie" stuff, transgressive art and outskirts of the sexual liberation movement.

Nah. "Not even a baboushka!"

Was there something dark to Joan Jett I'm not aware of? (And obviously before that the whole creepy "Band Aid" thing and the Red Snapper indicident, and even before *that* the "the virgin who craves your penis" fetish, as Robert Christgau called it. Men are pigs is what I'm trying to say.)

She sends people to Belize.

I just wanted to sing the praises of "Daisies" IS THAT A CRIME NOW

For whatever reason I pictured it happening at the wedding in a room away from the celebrations and that's not even supposed to be a Godfather joke.

Why would seeing more films (and I haven't seen like 2 or 3 from his list) invalidate the greatness of "Daisies" (or a film by Claire Denis or even Maya Deren) though? It's a good list as far as these things go but at the same time some idea of "inclusiveness" should be considered, and even if it's just a perfunctory

That joke is colder than Ice Tray, Ice Box and Ice Coffee combined!

I dunno, I've decided any list without "Daisies" on it ain't worth anything.

Meanwhile Nikita Mikhalkov abandons his plans to remake "Prison Break" as "Escape from the Gay Jew Gulag". (Seriously, Nikita Mikhalkov is the worst.)

"teenagers in Indie bands"
*shudder*

I mean, there is that Scorpions album (isn't it even called "Virgin Killer"?) with an even younger nude girl on the cover. I think the first person to be arrested in the US for possession of child pornography was Peter Sotos (a horrible horrible horrible man) in 1984 or 1985. I think there was a genuine mental
